Manincor, Reserve del Conte, Alto Adige, Italy 2018

2018

Made of 40% Merlot, 35% Lagrein, and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Manincor Reserve Del Conte is a deep ruby colour, with aromas of blackberry. This leads to a spice and herb driven palate, rich with flavours of black pepper, olives, and brandied cherries. Medium in body, this beautiful red blend combines the softness of Merlot, the acidity of Lagrein, and the tannin of Cabernet to craft a wine that is almost Burgundian in its silky mouth feel. The Reserve Del Conte would be a perfect match for heavily herbed pork or lamb dishes, or grilled steaks served with a green peppercorn sauce.

Posca Rossa, Akazia Barrel and Amfora, Emilia-Romagna, Italy NV

A non-vintage wine drawn from a big old concrete vat which contains a blend of Barbera, Negretto, Sangiovese and a small percentage of international varieties. It comes from different vineyards of various ages and includes a little of every year back to 2008. The wines have been made in different ways and in different vessels. The majority of the blend is made up of wine from the most recent vintage and the vat is constantly being topped up with young wine to prevent oxidation. This has a rather fascinating combination of bright fruit, great acidity and an earthy, savoury character from vintages which are now a decade old. As befits a wine from Emilia, it screams for a hunk of salami and a good piece of cheese.

Biondi, Outis, Etna Rosso, Sicily, Italy 2017

2017

This is a very elegant example of Etna Rosso and shows an almost Burgundian combination of finesse and substance, leaving a seductive and lingering impression on the palate. An attractive light-medium red Pinot-like color aligns to aromas of red and black fruits, with herbs and smoke, it is medium-bodied very flavorful, and long on the finish, excellent balance.

Cirelli, Trebianno Abruzzo, Anfora, Abruzzo, Italy 2017

2017

An amphora orange wine with 20 days of skin contact. It went through two fermentation and has a haze to if from no filtration. An incredibly cool orange wine with lemons, florals, mint, wet rock, and a feeling of peach that stays with you after. Really delicious!

This non-vintage wine is drawn from a big old concrete vat which contains a blend of Pignoletto, Alionza, Albana and Malvasia from different vineyards of various ages, from every vintage back to 2010. The wines are made in different ways, in a variety of vessels. The majority of the blend is made up of wine from the most recent vintage and the vat is constantly being topped up with young wine to prevent oxidation. While the younger wines are all fruit and flowers, there’s a salty, nutty backbone to this which makes for a wine of real intrigue.

This Sauvignon Blanc has a scintillatin golden yellow in the glass. The aroma is intense with tropical fruits, mango, papaya and passion fruit. Full bodied in the middle-palate, otherwise mineral-like reminiscent of wet stones with juicy acidity and a long finish.

Vigneto San Vito, Grotto, Pignoletto, Emilia-Romagna, Italy 2018

2018

A white wine of great balance, produced from grapes grown in full respect of nature and the land, following the principles of biodynamic agriculture. 'Grotto' is a fresh and dynamic white wine, very balanced on the palate and of great persistence, characterized on the finish by a pleasant minerality, while on the nose the warm notes of tropical fruit are lightened by pleasant citrus memories. A perfect wine to pair with stuffed pasta dishes or with fish or white meat main courses.

Biondi, Outis, Etna Bianco, Sicily, Italy 2017

2017

The Outis is made of 90% Carricante and of 10% Malvasia/Catarrato/Minella/Moscadella del Etna. This is a classic Etna Bianco; structured and savoury, with smoky, flinty notes, and a subtle salinity on the finish. Can be lovely with pasta with capers, anchovy and tuna – it’s pure alchemy when these strong flavours go up against this quietly assertive wine.

Vigneti San Vito, Sui Lieviti, Frizzante, Emilia-Romagna, Italy 2019

2019

The base of Pignoletto fermented on indigenous yeasts in steel tanks, without undergoing clarification or filtration. The tirage takes place with some must of Albana and Riesling grapes. The refermentation takes place in the bottle with the arrival of the warm spring days. It is not disgorged so the yeasts remain in the bottle. It can be served without shaking the bottle, decanting to separate the grounds, or shaking lightly before opening, to remix the yeasts and fully savour it.
